Highlights of Andalusia

Doug and I are now back home and happily ensconced in our Vancouver life after four months abroad, seeing friends and family and enjoying our beautiful mountain and seaside views. We would however, like to complete our 2018 travel blog by showcasing our incredible five weeks in the stunning south of Spain!

As the weather-gods continued to follow us on our journey to Andalusia, and we bedded down in Cordóba, Granada, Alméria, Antequera, Cadíz and Sevilla, we focused our energies on the marvels and delights of these beautiful towns instead of on blogging!

So without further ado…here are our highlights from this naturally beautiful and historically- and architecturally-laden part of southern Europe!

First we visited Cordóba, with its pebbled mosaics, unbelievable Mezquita-Catédral, and surrounding olive groves. Then we made our way to Granada to marvel at the not-to-be-missed Alhambra and the thoroughly captivating latin music on the miradors, and hike in the outskirts of the Sierra Nevada.

Next we drove to the south-eastern part of Andalusia in the region of Alméria, where we spent three days hiking through the rolling hills and along the rocky coastline of the Parque Natural Cabo de Gata. Then we skirted past 50 kilometers (?!) of plastic-tarped greenhouses to reach more stunning olive groves and the mountains around Antequera, where we welcomed Sara’s mom for a week!

Finally, we visited Arcos de la Frontera and the misty shores of Cadíz, considered by some to be the oldest continuously inhabited city in Western Europe, before finishing up in the capital of Andalusia, Sevilla, with its Gothic Cathedral, Real Alcazar and flamenco dancing. A perfect way to end our Spanish voyage and celebrate our 25th anniversary!

Hasta luego Espana…last stop on our trip was Portugal with our boys for Christmas!
